My latest pastel painting gets underway – “Early morning on Wells Beach”

usually use Fisher 400 art paper for my pastel paintings, which is like a very fine sand paper. Consequently it holds a large amount of pastel and is easy to blend with the fingers, particularly useful for large areas.  For my latest painting I am using a new paper, Clairefontaine Pastelmat Paper. This is much smoother and, so far, is proving easy to use with less pastel on the paper. After sketching out the subject, I have completed the majority of the sky – stage 1 attached:
